Biography
Can bioacoustics save animal populations? In the era of climate change, my goal is to demonstrate how bioacoustics can be an effective tool for understanding and conserving the animal world. I believe in the power of technology and artificial intelligence to accelerate this process.I am an ethologist fascinated by animal communication. Since 2022 I have been working on the bioacoustics of the African penguin, an endangered species in South Africa, with the aim of better understanding the vocal repertoire, and the health status through the study of adults and chicks vocalizations, thereby contributing to their survival. For my PhD project, I will estimate breeding and non- breeding population of birds and mammals through a Passive Acoustic Monitoring system, and I will create a validated model to apply to species of conservation concern.
